This Privacy Policy explains how Verntro Labs ("Verntro Labs," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the DocLoft mobile application (the "App").
The Short Version
DocLoft does not collect your personal information, and your documents never reach us.
- No account. There is no sign-up, sign-in, registration, or profile. We never ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
- No tracking. The App contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no third-party tracking technologies, and no advertising identifier (IDFA) usage. We do not track you across apps or websites.
- Your documents stay on your device. Scanning, editing, text recognition (OCR), and AI features all run locally on your device. Your documents are never transmitted to Verntro Labs. We operate no servers that receive, store, or process them.
- We cannot see your files. Even if we wanted to, we have no technical means to access, retrieve, or restore any document you create with the App.
- Optional iCloud sync uses your iCloud, not ours. If you turn it on, documents sync through your own private Apple iCloud account. They remain inaccessible to us.
- We do not sell or share your personal information. We never have and we have no plans to.
The rest of this policy explains the details, including the limited aggregated information Apple provides to us as the App's developer.
01Who We Are
Verntro Labs is the developer of DocLoft and is the party responsible for this Privacy Policy.

02Information We Do Not Collect
We want to be specific, because "we care about your privacy" statements are often vague. Verntro Labs does not collect, receive, store, process, or have access to any of the following:
- Your name, email address, postal address, or phone number
- Account credentials (there are no accounts)
- Your documents, scans, photographs, or any of their contents
- Text extracted by OCR, or any output of the AI features
- Document titles, file names, folder names, or search queries
- Contacts, calendars, reminders, health data, or messages
- Precise or approximate location data
- Your advertising identifier (IDFA), or any cross-app or cross-site tracking identifier
- Browsing history or app usage history
- Payment card numbers or billing information
- Biometric identifiers
The App makes no network requests to Verntro Labs, because we operate no application servers. Network activity occurs only in the circumstances described in Sections 4, 5, and 6, and in every case the data goes to Apple or to a third-party service you have explicitly chosen — never to us.
03Information Processed on Your Device
The App processes the following entirely on your device. This information is stored locally in the App's private storage area and is not transmitted to us.
| What | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Documents you scan, import, or create | Core functionality | Your device's app storage |
| Camera images captured while scanning | To produce a scanned document | Your device |
| Photos you choose to import | To convert images to PDF or add to documents | Your device |
| Text extracted by OCR | To make scans searchable and to power AI actions | Your device |
| AI-generated summaries, extracted details, and title suggestions | To provide the AI Actions feature | Your device |
| Page thumbnails | To display your library quickly | A local cache on your device |
| Your signature image | To apply it to documents you sign | Your device |
| Settings values: whether you have completed onboarding, whether iCloud sync is enabled, and whether you have adopted a signature (with the date you did) | To remember your preferences | Local app preferences |
3.1 Text Recognition (OCR)
OCR is performed using Apple's on-device Vision framework. Images and recognized text are not sent to Verntro Labs or to any third party for processing.
3.2 AI Actions
The App's AI features (summarize, extract key information, suggest a title) use Apple Intelligence running locally on your device. Your document content is not sent to Verntro Labs, to Apple's servers, to Apple's Private Cloud Compute, or to any third-party AI provider. These features require an Apple Intelligence-capable device running a supported version of iOS; where unsupported, the feature is simply unavailable.
3.3 Read Aloud
The read-aloud feature uses Apple's built-in on-device speech synthesis to convert page text to audio. Text is handled by the operating system on your device and is not sent to us.
3.4 Deleting This Information
Deleting a document in the App deletes it from your device. Deleting the App removes all of its locally stored data, including your documents, thumbnails, extracted text, and settings. Because we never receive this information, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and no deletion request you need to send us. If iCloud sync was enabled, see Section 4.
04Optional iCloud Sync
The App includes an optional iCloud sync feature that is turned off by default. You may enable it in Settings.
When enabled, your documents synchronize through your own private Apple iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit private database. This means:
- Your documents are stored in your personal iCloud storage, under your Apple Account.
- They are accessible only to you, on devices signed in with your Apple Account.
- Verntro Labs cannot access, view, retrieve, restore, or delete them. We hold no keys and have no administrative access to your private database.
- Apple processes this data as part of providing iCloud, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/) and iCloud terms.
To remove synced documents: turn off iCloud sync in the App's Settings and delete the documents, or manage DocLoft's iCloud data directly through iOS Settings → your Apple Account → iCloud. Because this data resides in your iCloud account rather than with us, you control it directly.
05Purchases
DocLoft offers a single one-time in-app purchase ("DocLoft Pro"). All purchases are processed by Apple.
- We do not receive, process, or store your payment card number, billing address, or Apple Account credentials.
- Purchase verification happens through Apple's StoreKit framework on your device. The App checks with Apple whether a valid entitlement exists; that check does not identify you to us.
- Apple's handling of purchase information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
06Third-Party File Providers and Sharing
When you import a document from, or export a document to, an external service — such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or Box — you do so through Apple's standard document picker. Likewise, when you share a document using the iOS share sheet (for example by email, message, or to another app), the transfer happens outside the App.
In these cases:
- The document goes directly from your device to the service or recipient you selected. It does not pass through Verntro Labs.
- The receiving service handles your data under its own privacy policy and terms, not ours.
- We do not control, monitor, or receive any record of what you transfer.
We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party service you use.
07Information Apple Provides to Us
This is the only category of information we receive, and we want to be transparent about it. As the App's developer, Apple makes limited aggregated and anonymized reporting available to us through App Store Connect. This may include:
- Sales and download reports — aggregate counts of downloads and purchases, by territory and date. These do not identify individual users.
- Aggregate app analytics — statistics such as impressions, downloads, sessions, and retention. Apple provides these only in aggregated, anonymized form, and only for users who have consented to share analytics with developers in iOS Settings.
- Crash and diagnostic reports — if, and only if, you have opted in to "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash logs and performance diagnostics with us. These describe technical conditions such as where the App stopped working; they are not used to identify you, and they do not contain your documents or their contents.
We use this information solely to understand overall usage and to fix bugs and improve the App. We cannot use it to identify you, and we do not attempt to. You can stop sharing analytics and crash data at any time in iOS Settings.
We also receive any information you choose to send us — for example, if you contact support. See Section 8.
08If You Contact Us
If you contact us for support through verntrolabs.com/support, we will receive whatever information you choose to provide — typically your email address, your message, and any details or attachments you include.
We use this information only to respond to you and resolve your issue. We do not use it for marketing, we do not sell it, and we do not add you to any mailing list. We retain support correspondence only as long as needed to handle your request and keep a reasonable record, and then delete it.
Please do not send us confidential or sensitive documents. We do not need them to help you, and we would rather not receive them.
09Device Permissions
The App may ask for the following permissions. Each is optional, is requested only when you first use the related feature, and can be changed at any time in iOS Settings → DocLoft.
| Permission | Used for | If you decline |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Scanning documents with your device camera | Scanning is unavailable; you can still import existing files |
| Photo Library | Importing images to convert to PDF or place in a document | Image import is unavailable; other features are unaffected |
We request no other permissions. The App does not request location, contacts, microphone, calendar, reminders, health, tracking, or notification permissions.
10Required-Reason API Disclosures
Apple requires developers to declare certain iOS APIs and the reasons they are used. The App includes a privacy manifest declaring the following, consistent with this policy:
- User Defaults (reason CA92.1) — to store your app preferences (whether onboarding is complete, and whether iCloud sync is enabled) on your device only.
- File Timestamps (reason C617.1) — to display and sort your documents by date, and to manage files inside the App's own storage.
- Disk Space (reason 85F4.1) — to display document file sizes to you and to write files reliably.
None of these are used for tracking, profiling, fingerprinting, or advertising.
11Children's Privacy
DocLoft is a general-purpose productivity tool. It is not directed to children, is not designed for or marketed to children, and contains no child-directed content, advertising, or social features.
Because the App collects no personal information from anyone, it collects no personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we have no mechanism by which such information could reach us.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information to us — for example, by contacting support — please reach out at verntrolabs.com/support and we will delete it.
12Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the rights to access, correct, delete, or port it, to opt out of sale or targeted advertising, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights.
In practice, these rights have little to act upon with DocLoft, because we hold no personal information about you. We nevertheless honor them fully.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We never have.
- We do not use your information for targeted advertising or profiling.
- Access, correction, deletion, and portability: your documents are already entirely in your possession, on your device and, if you enabled sync, in your own iCloud account. You can view, edit, export, and permanently delete them at any time without asking us. Deleting the App removes its local data.
- Support correspondence: if you have contacted us and would like us to delete that correspondence, ask at verntrolabs.com/support and we will do so.
This applies to rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, the Virginia CDPA, the Colorado Privacy Act, the Connecticut Data Privacy Act, the Utah Consumer Privacy Act, and comparable US state privacy laws.
California "Shine the Light": we disclose no personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland: where we do process personal information (in practice, only support correspondence you send us), our legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to your request, or your consent. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Because the App itself transmits no personal data to us, no international transfer of your data to us occurs through ordinary use of the App.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right, and we do not require you to create an account or verify your identity to use the App.
13Data Retention
- On your device: documents and settings are retained until you delete them or delete the App. We impose no retention period and have no ability to remove them remotely.
- In your iCloud account (if sync is enabled): retained under your control, subject to Apple's iCloud policies.
- Support correspondence: retained only as long as necessary to resolve your request and maintain a reasonable record.
- Aggregated Apple reports: retained as provided by Apple in App Store Connect; these contain no personal information.
We hold no user database, so there is no user record to retain or expire.
14Security
Your documents are stored in the App's private storage area on your device, protected by iOS's application sandbox and by the device's built-in file encryption when a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID is enabled. Enabling a device passcode is the single most effective step you can take to protect documents stored in the App.
The App also lets you apply password protection to individual PDF documents. Please note the limits of that feature: we cannot recover a password you forget, and PDF encryption should not be treated as a substitute for appropriate device and account security.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. However, because we do not receive or store your documents or personal information, there is no Verntro Labs database whose breach could expose them.
15Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, to reflect new features or changes in the law. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date above and post the current version at the DocLoft Privacy Policy.
If we make a material change — in particular, if we ever begin collecting personal information — we will provide prominent notice, such as an in-app notice, before the change takes effect. We will not retroactively apply material changes to information collected under a prior version of this policy without your consent.

DocLoft was built so that privacy is a property of its architecture, not a promise in a document. Your files stay on your device because the App has nowhere else to send them.
